QB Knapke has MAC offer
Quarterbacks are starting to receive a lot more attention as coaches have been stopping by high schools.
They'll be under the spotlight even more in the next couple of months, as quarterbacks will be closely evaluated at summer camps and combines all over the country.
One Midwest quarterback to keep an eye on is James Knapke, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound pro-style quarterback from Fort Wayne (Ind.) Bishop Luers.
Knapke has an offer from Bowling Green and he'll have plenty of other opportunities to add to that offer list this summer.
"I've been on campus (at Bowling Green) three times already," Knapke explained this week. "I went to the spring game, the junior day and I watched a practice. Coach (Warren) Ruggiero was at school (Tuesday).
"He's told me I'm the number one quarterback that they want. I'm going back over there sometime in June to see everything and talk to all the players. I've been in contact with them for a long time. I really like the coaching staff. It's a great program with a great history with QBs. They like to throw it around and that's what I like to do. It's a great academic school, too, especially for teachers."
Knapke has been invited to camps at Indiana, Purdue, Northwestern, Michigan, Michigan State, Tennessee, Kentucky, Notre Dame, Stanford, Illinois and Cincinnati.
He's not sure which camps he'll be attending because invitations are still coming in.
Coaches from Toledo, Miami-OH, Akron and Western Michigan out of the MAC have been in a lot of contact with Knapke as well.
Does he have any favorites?
"Right now it's pretty wide open," he said. "My dad and I are just kind of seeing what schools would be the best fit for me. It's been a fun process figuring all that stuff out."
Last season at Bishop Luer, Knapke passed for 2,230 yards and 30 touchdowns with just nine interceptions.
