Corey Holmes chose to stick with the familiar.
Right around this time one year ago the four-star wide receiver from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., made his first visit to Notre Dame while on a short swing of Midwest schools. Since then the Irish have played host three more times, most recently during the June camp period.
Accumulating campus visits helped the Irish today when Holmes called head coach Brian Kelly to make a verbal commitment, choosing them over fellow finalist UCLA.
"Officially committed to the University of Notre Dame," Holmes posted on Twitter.
Holmes also considered scholarship offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Cincinnati, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Houston, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, Ole Miss, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Purdue, Rutgers, South Carolina, South Florida, Syracuse, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, West Virginia and Wisconsin, among others.
But after months of visits and communicating with different coaches staffs the 6-foot-2, 175-pound prospect whittled things down to Notre Dame and UCLA.
He visited Notre Dame again in June and made the trek to UCLA in early July after competing against other top recruits at The Opening in Oregon. After leaving Los Angeles, Holmes knew it was time to make a decision.
"I really like both schools," Holmes told Irish Illustrated on July 12. "When I sit down and think about it I'm gonna bring out the pros in UCLA and the pros in Notre Dame then the negatives in UCLA and the negatives in Notre Dame. That'll help me make my decision."
Doing so led Holmes to Notre Dame, where he joins four-star Justin Brent as wide receiver commitments in the current recruiting haul.
Holmes is the 15th commitment in total and the sixth inside the Rivals250. Rivals.com rates Holmes the No. 228 prospect overall and 31st wide receiver nationally.
