2011 Midwest Elite Camp: Quarterbacks and Running Backs

As many of you know, the Midwest Elite Football Exposure Camp is a place where top high school football players from across the Midwest gather to showcase their skills. In previous years, it has featured many great talents including Jake Fisher, Austin White, Devin Gardner and Robert Bolden.

The 2011 edition took place on Sunday in Wixom, Mich. and I had an opportunity to visit the camp for the first time. It was a good chance to meet and interact with some great coaches, as well as many rising prospects.

Yesterday, I took a look at the top defensive players at the camp. Today, I was planning on talking about all of the players who I thought stood out on the offensive side of the ball. Instead, I will take a look at quarterbacks and running backs today and then I will finish up tomorrow with wide receivers, tight ends and the offensive line

Brian Cleary, Class of 2012: 6'3, 190 pounds, UD Jesuit - I think he was one of the best quarterbacks at the camp and yet surprisingly he hasn't received an offer yet. He possesses a live arm and can make all the throws, including throwing the deep ball with accuracy. He needs to work on his mobility some and bulk up a little, but as he continues to showcases his talents, there is no reason he won't earn numerous offers.
Cooper Rush, Class of 2012: 6'4, 220 pounds, Lansing Catholic - He just received an offer from Central Michigan early last week, which was his first one thus far. He has a very good arm and can roll out of the pocket and throw the ball with accuracy. Needs to work on his footwork a bit.
Collin Michael, Class of 2012: 6'5, 225 pounds, Lexington (Ohio) - He is a tall quarterback that has a big arm and has good technique throwing the ball. Needs some work on his footwork and mobility. He has recently received an offer from CMU, which is his only offer so far. He has potential and is a player to keep an eye on.
Marcus Prather, Class of 2012: 6'2, 205 pounds, Steubenville (Ohio) - No offers at this point, but he comes from a big time football school and possesses the tools to get some coveted offers.
Kyle Dinkins, Class of 2013, 6'1, 218 pounds, Ecorse - He is a dual threat quarterback that is only a sophomore. Has a nice frame, but he doesn't lack for mobility. He has the strength to throw the ball downfield.
Other Notable Prospects
Troy Bitterle, Class of 2012: 6'3, 204 pounds - Portage Northern
Mitchell Robinson, Class of 2012: 6'1, 188 pounds - Avondale
Nick Heimbaugh, Class of 2012: 6'2, 185 pounds - Akron Firestone (Ohio)
Damarcus Johnson, Class of 2013: 6'1, 180 pounds - Flint Northeastern

Running Backs
Ryan Jones, Class of 2012: 5'10, 190 pounds, Canton - Central Michigan offered him recently, which should be the first of many offers. He has the tools to be a big time running back, but is a little under the radar because he was behind two great players at Canton last year. He has great quickness and agility to get around most players with ease. At a recent combine, he recorded a 33.5" vertical jump and 4.45 40-yard dash. The only question that I have about him is his receiving ability because Canton doesn't throw the ball very often
Devin Church, Class of 2012, 5'9, 185 pounds, Brother Rice - He holds offers from Boston College, Bowling Green, and Toledo. He is a big time playmaker that has the potential to play at a BCS school. He has the speed and overall athleticism that every coach fears because of his ability to make plays in space.
Juwan Lewis, Class of 2012, 5'11, 210 pounds, Muskegon - A quiet, reserved kid that possesses the quickness and power to wreak havoc on any defense. He currently has offers from EMU and WMU.
Donte Fox, Class of 2012, 5'10, 195 pounds, Plymouth - His only offer is Central Michigan, but look for him to add some more in the near future. He has a good combination of speed and strength, which makes him a very versatile back.
Ian Horne, Class of 2012, 6'0, 220 pounds, Okemos - He is a big, strong back that can run over defenders and deliver a brutal hit to anybody in his path.
Brian Walker, Class of 2014, 5'9, 210 pounds, Brother Rice - He is a freshman that already possesses the size and speed to succeed. He still has plenty of time to develop even more as a player and I predict that he will be one of the top backs in the country in 2014.
Other Notable Prospects
Omar Sitto, Class of 2012, 6'0, 215 pounds - Berkley
David Hughes, Class of 2012, 5'9, 180 pounds - UD Jesuit
Brandon Hall, Class of 2013, 5'10, 215 pounds - Orchard view
Anthony Mitchell, Class of 2013, 5-foot-9, 185 pounds - Licking Heights (Ohio)
