Arkansas QB Prepares For MT Visit
The Blue Raiders head into the offseason with only three scholarship quarterbacks on the roster and should be looking to sign at least one quarterback in the 2012 class.
Second year quarterback coach Buster Faulkner recently made a trip to Little Rock, Arkansas for an in-home visit with quarterback Zach Conque.
The 6'4", 205-pound quarterback had good things to say about his time with Faulkner.
"It was a good visit," Conque told GoMiddle.com. "He gave a good presentation."
Even with offers from Central Arkansas and Middle Tennessee in hand, Conque was not ready to back out of his commitment to Texas - San Antonio after Faulkner's visit.
"It's still early and everything is changing," Conque said. "But I've been blessed to go through it."
Conque is blessed in quite a few ways, actually. His 6'4" and 205-pound frame is ideal for a QB coming out of high school. Conque is also an exceptional passer with good arm strength and fantastic accuracy to go along with flawless mechanics and great field vision, something that certainly caught the eye of the Blue Raider coaching staff.
He is also blessed to have an inside track to understanding the recruiting process. His father, Clint Conque, is the head football coach at Central Arkansas. That certainly makes it tough to recruit against UCA, but blood may not be a thick as water when it comes to Zach Conque's commitment.
"Sitting at the dinner table with him recruiting me is interesting," Conque joked, adding that he has no desire to play for his father though. "I'd rather not deal with the talk of playing because I'm the coach's son."
For now, it looks like Middle Tennessee and UTSA will battle head-to-head for the talented prospect. But everything can change quickly in the world of recruiting.
Conque received early interest from Alabama-Birmingham, Texas A&M, Toledo, Arkansas State, and Kansas, but the new coaching staffs decided to look elsewhere for a quarterback. He hasn't let the disappointment get to him as he pushes through the remainder of the recruiting process.
Conque told GoMiddle.com that he will make an official visit Middle Tennessee on January 14th and will visit the Roadrunners of Texas - San Antonio the following weekend.
