Harris will show at LSU camp
Bossier City (La.) Parkway quarterback Brandon Harris holds a short list of offers now but his options could escalate quickly.
The Class of 2104 dual-threat quarterback owns a skill set that has grabbed LSU's attention and Harris has already garnered in-state offers from Louisiana Tech and McNeese State. Additionally, the 6-3, 185-pounder reported an offer from Arizona State over the weekend and he's hearing from Texas A&M, Ole Miss and Arkansas.
"It's all about going to camps and them getting to know me," Harris told TigerBait.com. "Right now all they've seen is video. They want to get to know me more and more."
A family engagement kept Harris from attending LSU's Junior Day. But when Harris called his LSU recruiter Steve Ensminger recently, he was also able to speak with new offensive Cam Cameron and head coach Les Miles.
"Coach Miles was telling me about their new offensive coordinator," Harris said. "He told me I may be the best quarterback prospect in my class."
Harris completed 152 of 306 passes for 2,573 yards and 26 touchdowns with just seven picks as a junior. He added another 667 yards and 12 touchdowns on 115 carries.
"Coach Cameron was saying he liked me," Harris said. "They were sitting there watching video and he liked how I looked compared to everybody else. It was something I was interested in hearing. You always want to see how you match up with other guys."
Describing his athletic attributes, Harris said, "I run a low 4.5. The other day, I actually ran a 4.4 something. And if you've ever seen me throw a football, it's amazing. I can throw a football as well as anybody you match me up with. I've got good mechanics and I take pride in it. On a good day, I can rare back and throw a ball about 75 yards."
Harris will be a heavy participant on the camp circuit this summer and plans to make both camps at LSU.
"Right now it's all about trying to get better, Harris said. "My dad and I have got probably 15 camps in line already for this summer. It's going to be an interesting summer and I'll let the recruiting process take care of itself."
Harris said he's become friends with Barbe wide receiver Trey Quinn, who has an LSU offer. They talk about recruiting sometimes and even have discussed attending the same school together.
"I talked to him the other day," Harris said. "We're going to go down to the LSU camps this summer. We've already got the date in mind when he's going to go. I'm going to both of them. We talked yesterday about possibly trying to be a package deal somewhere. He's a really good guy. His upside is ridiculous."
