Martinez has high goals

Tampa Catholic (Tampa, Fla.) offensive lineman Corey Martinez aims high.

As one of the top players in the Sunshine State, there is always a chance that Martinez will have a football career beyond that, but he isn't betting on it.

"That is a big reason why going to college to get just any degree isn't something he is interested in.

"I'm looking to get a really good education wherever I go," Martinez told UGASports.com in a telephone interview. "I really want to study and pursue criminal law. It is something that has stood out to me for a while now. It is something that really interests me and it is something that I could see myself studying for four years and beyond."

Luckily for the Martinez, there is no shortage of schools that are working hard to get him on campus.

The four-star prospect is quickly approaching 20 offers at this point, and it appears as if all of the schools that have offered plus ones that could offer in the near future are recruiting him heavily.

"None of the offers are standing out to me more than the others," he said. "Actually, all of them do. There is no particular one that I can say stands out the most or is a favorite. I can tell you that a lot of schools have been in contact a lot. Miami and Alabama have been in contact a lot. Florida State and Notre Dame have been, too. Rutgers, Tennessee, and Notre Dame, too. Boston College is another one that I talk to on a weekly basis. Also Georgia has been in there and recruiting me hard."

One of Martinez's latest offers came from Georgia when, according to his father, Ron, Mark Richt, Mike Bobo, and Will Friend all joined in on a conference call with the Sunshine State prospect to let him know he is wanted in Athens.

Going forward, Martinez has high hopes for his communication with the Bulldog staff.

"I've been in contact with Georgia a lot. I talk to Coach (Bryan) McClendon," he said. "They have come down to the school. This past week I got an offer from them and since then it has picked up even more. We have been talking more and more. I know as the months go by we are definitely going to be talking a lot. I plan on visiting up there soon. I also know I'm going to be talking to Coach Richt on a weekly basis. Things are looking really great there."

Martinez is also impressed with the Georgia program and not just what the Bulldogs have done on the field.

As a recruit that is placing a high emphasis on education, he is impressed with the academic side of things as well.

"I know their football team is in the SEC and they have done a really good job of building the their offense and their program as one of the big teams in the SEC," Martinez said. "Their football team is great. The school is beautiful. Their academics are also something that you really can't beat."

The Tampa native says that he plans on using his spring break to take visits to as many places as he can possibly see, and isn't sure about when he wants to narrow things down and make a decision.

But in the meantime, he has no problem enjoying the process.

"It has been great. I've been in contact with a bunch of different coaches on the phone and facebook," he said. "I love the opportunity I have to play at all the different schools. I just love it. It doesn't get better than this."
