Martinez updates visit

Spring break season is upon us, and while many college and high school students all over the United States are heading to typical beach destinations, prep football prospects like Tampa Catholic (Tampa, Fla.) offensive lineman Corey Martinez are using the time off from school to visit programs of interest.

Monday marked the beginning of Martinez's spring break, and the four-star prospect, his father, Ron, and his teammate, defensive back T.J. Harrell, visited Georgia first the first time.

Martinez spoke with UGASports as he left camps on Monday, and was impressed with what he saw.

"It's a great place," Martinez said of his visit to UGA. "Coming up here for the first time ever and seeing what they have to offer, talking to all the coaches and Coach (Mark) Richt is such a great guy. Seeing all the facilities as top notch, you can't go wrong with coming here and seeing the school."

Martinez was one of the first few linemen that Georgia offered for the 2014 class, and based on the conversations he had with the Bulldog coaches, he is a high priority for the staff.

"I didn't really get to talk much to coach (Will) Friend because he was busy," he said. "During his meetings he came out and said bye to me and we talked. He said that he really wants me to play offensive line. He likes how versatile I am and that I can play all of the positions. I think they are going to look to try and play me at whatever position they feel comfortable with.

When asked to name a highlight of the Georgia visit, Martinez listed a couple of different aspects of his time on campus.

"I think the coaches," Martinez said. "It is a real family environment. Being able to spend the whole day with them and talking to them was real important. Also seeing the academic side. We got to take a walk through the sports academic side of the school and seeing all of the facilities, it is really nice."

The Sunshine State lineman has big time offers from the likes of Miami, Florida State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and Notre Dame and plans to visit all of those schools in the near future.

This visit to UGA, according to Martinez, has put the Bulldogs in solid position to compete for his signature with that impressive list of schools.

"They (UGA) are very high up," he said. "After this visit it is definitely a school I am considering. It is close to home so my family can travel and come see my play. After this visit they are definitely high up there."

Martinez, who says he will "definitely" make a return trip to Athens, has one more visit planned for spring break and will then wait until the summer before touring campuses again.

"Right now we are actually going to leave here and go to Florida State and spend Tuesday and watch practice over there," Martinez said. "I think that will be it for spring break. Then I think during the summer we are going to try to get out and see some other schools like Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and Wake (Forest). I want to fly up and see Boston College and Notre Dame so those will be some of the upcoming visits."
