SpartanMag.com: Quick Hitters

SpartanMag.com has the latest news on several fronts. An elite running back prospect that is high on the Spartan recruiting board. Several additional Michigan State campers and the Sound Mind -Sound Body Camp is right around the corner too. Find out the latest.

  • BIG Running Back on the radar:

As many know running back Chris James is a plan A recruit for the Michigan state Spartans. With that said, there are other running backs that are being recruited and have a high-level of interest in Michigan State. One of the players is Madre London of St Thomas Aquinas High School in Florida. London has a Michigan State offer and has them among his top choices. London likes how Michigan State has a history of using big running backs like LeVeon Bell, Jehuu Caulcrick and TJ Duckett to pound the ball. London is looking to visit school in June and Michigan State is one of the places he is hoping he will be able to check out.

  • Sound Mind - Sound Body:

The Sound Mind Sound Body Camp continues to grow as one of the feature camps in the nation. This year will be no exception and a host of players will be in attendance. Last year Michigan State scouted Dennis Finley at the event and subsequently offered him a scholarship. This year a player who is expected to be in attendance that the staff has the eye on is offensive lineman Frank Ragnow of Minnesota. If he performs well at SM-SB look for him to be on campus meeting with the staff and learning more about Michigan State. SpartanMag.com will have plenty of coverage of the Sound Mind -Sound Body Camp

  • Cathedral Prep Camper:

Michigan State has two stars from last year's State Championship Erie Cathedral Prep team in Damion Terry and Delton Williams on the roster. The top prospects form ECP for the class of 2014 looks to be defensive back Felix Manus-Schell. The 6-foot-0, 180-pound prospects already has a couple of MAC offers on the table and is looking to improve his offer list with a strong showing in front of all the coaches that will be at the Spartan Camp. SpartanMag.com scouted Schell last year at two ECP games and he is one of those players that simply has a nose for the ball and makes plays.

  • Still on the radar:

Earlier this month wide receiver Conner Krizancic made an early commitment to Cincinnati. SpartanMag.com thought the commit was bit pre-mature as Krizancic looked like a player who was primed to pick up numerous offers during the month of June. It turns out that still may be that case as Minnesota just offers and schools like Iowa, Illinois and Illinois are still very much after him. Michigan State has cooled due to his commitment, but he would have a legitimate shot at a Spartan scholarship offer if he came to camp on June 16th and performed well. Krizancic compares very favorable to Northwestern commitment Dareian Watkins and all the Spartan staff probably wanted was to see him perform in person.

  • Ohio Track Championships:

A couple of Spartan recruiting targets will be competing this weekend in the Ohio Track Championships. Defensive back recruit Vaynate Copeland will be running in the 400M and the 4x400 relay. Spartan wide receiver target JayJay Pinckeny will be running in the 4x400 relay and doing the long jump. Both Copeland and Pinckney are expected to challenge for top honors in their individual events. One of the people Pinckney will be jumping against is 2013 Spartan commitment Darian Hicks who also qualified in the event.

  • More camp visitors:

Spartanmag.com will be putting together a master list of participants as Michigan State Camp approaches. Yesterday we mentioned that top defensive tackles Craig Evans of Wisconsin and David Beedle of Michigan will be in attendance. They are not the only BCS level defensive tackle prospects that will be in attendance. Beedles' teammate Nick Matich will also be camping at Michigan State. Matich is a bit shorter than Beedle, but his stock is rising fast and he now has a dozen offers. SpartanMag.com also has it that Jaleel Fields of Pennsylvania and Brandon Hines of Wisconsin are expected to be in East Lansing that weekend.
