Hankins looking to anchor the middle

[db]Johnathon Hankins[/db] is a physically imposing player, standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 326 pounds. The defensive tackle is from Southeastern High school in Detroit where numerous players have matriculated to the Division 1 level, including offensive tackle Kyle Bryant (Bowling Green) last year. Hankins continues to garner the interest of numerous schools around the country, including perennial powerhouses in the Big Ten and ACC. He recently just picked up an offer from Ohio State.

To elaborate on his current situation, Hankins already has offers from Big Ten schools Wisconsin and Minnesota and Ohio State, and also holds an offer from Oklahoma. Hankins also acknowledged that he has received high interest from ACC schools including North Carolina as well.

While Hankins is drawing interest from some of the top schools in the country, he is also being recruited by numerous schools in the MAC including Central Michigan University. Hankins stated that CMU has shown interest by attending a couple of his games during the season, however, the Chippewas have yet to offer him a scholarship.

Even though schools continue to increase their recruitment of Hankins, he stated that he currently does not have a leader at this time. When asked what he was looking for in his school of choice Hankins responded by saying,
[
"I'm looking for a school that runs the 3-4 defense, has a good team, and good coaching".

Being a 326 pound defensive tackle has its own strengths at the next level, but Hankins size is not his only strong point.

"I use my hands well and I am quick off the ball".

As a junior, Hankins recorded over 18 solo tackles and 8 individual sacks. The stellar play of Hankins along with highly sought after teammate William Gholston led Detroit Southeastern to a record of 10-2 and a berth into the state playoffs last season.

The pairing of Johnathon Hankins and William Gholston has proven to form a truly dynamic duo that anchors the Detroit Southeastern High school defense. The highly coveted prospects are also very close friends off the field, which has sparked inquiries on whether the two will take their talents to the same collegiate institution.

"It would be good to play with William in college but it has to be a school that's the right fit for both of us. If it's not the right fit it probably would not work" said Hankins on the possibility of going to the same school as Gholston.

Hankins also enjoys other things outside of football and keeps academics as a priority as well.

"Outside of football I enjoy playing basketball and PS3" added Hankins.

In school Hankins stated that Science and Social Studies are his favorite subjects.
