Tigers offer 2014 back

TigerBait.com has confirmed that LSU has extended a scholarship offer to one of the top young running backs in the state for the Class of 2014.

Although only a freshman, and competing in only two varsity games thus far in his career, running back Leonard Fournette is considered to be one of the top prospects at his position.

"I know (LSU assistant coach) Frank Wilson was supposed to talk to him (Leonard) today," St. Augustine football coach David Johnson said. "I really think that he is the real deal. I have told a number of people that I have known for a while that he is definitely going to be my starting running back for quite a while. He is right at six-foot and probably around 210 pounds. He runs a legitimate 4.5 40, he ran that at the Southern Mississippi camp this summer.

"He is just a real powerful kid," Thomas said. "He reminds me of an (Minnesota Vikings') Adrian Peterson. He can run, cut well and catch the ball out of the backfield. He is an exciting player that will do whatever we ask him to do. "

Johnson said his star running back, who just turned 15 years of age, is just beginning to reach his potential on the football field. Throught the first two weeks of the season Fournette is the state's leading rusher with 53 carries for 479 yards and five touchdowns, including a head-turning 27-carry, 241-yard, 2-TD performance in the season opener against McDonogh 35.

"Besides his size he just already has that kind of athletic ability that colleges are after," Johnson said. "He went to the LSU camp this past summer and I told the coaching staff there to look at him. Coach Wilson was quite impressed but he wanted to see him in some game action.

"Well through our first two games he is right at 500 yards on the ground," Thomas said. "That's impressive and obviously caught the eye of the coaching staff at LSU."
