Under Armour Summer Jam Day Two
MILWAUKEE, WI - On day two of the Under Armour Summer Jam tournament presented by NY2LA Sports, several players stepped up to the plate in their games on the U17 and U16 level. The field was highlighted by a top-25 talent from Minnesota and a rising freshman from the state of Iowa, both of whom dominated their games.
Vaughn Emerges As Top Player At Summer Jam
With Kentucky, Baylor, Iowa State, Iowa, Minnesota, Texas, Tennessee and more watching on, 2014 shooting guard Rashad Vaughn topped Wednesday nights 26-point performance with an even better one in a loss on Thursday. The No. 20 rising junior in the Rivals100 showed off on the court as he shot the rock from all over the court, slashed and finished at the hole. There were points in the game when the 4-star talent from Net Gain Sports (MN) looked like one of the best scorers in the nation. Vaughn, who will return to Robbinsdale Cooper (MN) this fall, has caught the attention of Kentucky and North Carolina and is hoping an offer comes in. As a majority of the schools recruiting him are making a strong push, Vaughn told Rivals.com he will likely visit Baylor in August. He lists scholarships from Minnesota, Iowa State, Iowa, Kansas, Baylor, Texas, Syracuse, Tennessee, Colorado, Michigan State and Michigan.
Allen & Reddick Star For Illinois Jets
Well-rounded on and off the court best describes 2014 Southwest Illinois Jets backcourt Darreon Reddick and Peyton Allen . The two started off the day with a strong performance as both scored the rock and distributed it as they won in convincing fashion. Allen, a 6-foot-4 combo guard from Glennwood, can shoot, attack the rim and find open teammates in transition like a point guard. With offers from Oklahoma State, Bradley and Iowa, along with interest from Michigan, Boston College, Virginia Tech, Xavier and Tennessee, Allen will likely visit Oklahoma State, Boston College and Michigan, for the second time, in August. Reddick, the 6-foot-3 combo guard from Belleville East, can get to the hole and get others involved on the court. DePaul, IUPUI and Indiana State have offered, while Butler, Xavier, Tennessee, Illinois State, Nebraska, Missouri, Michigan and Iowa are showing interest. While he has visited most of the schools recruiting him, Reddick believes Iowa, Butler and Xavier are close to offering. Look for the dynamic duo to add more offers at the end of July.
Myles Shows Promise In The Class of 2016
In one of the smaller gyms, the Quad City Elite U16 team attracted a ton of attention. While the big name for them is 2014 Wisconsin pledge Ethan Happ , the day belonged to 2016 6-foot-4 combo guard Jerry Myles , who will attend Davenport West in Iowa for his freshman year. Finishing with 24 points and 6 blocks, including a few exciting dunks, Myles attracted the attention of a few Big Ten schools who took in his game. As there is plenty of buzz around Myles in the midwest, the rising freshman already holds interest from Nebraska, Michigan, Iowa and Wisconsin, and has already been to the Iowa campus. He also hopes to visit the Nebraska and Wisconsin campuses in the fall. An athletic young player, who can cut to the basket from the wing or off the dribble, Myles can also shoot the rock and is quick for his size. As he just turned 14-years old in April, there is no doubt that an offer - likely from the Big Ten - will come in the next few months for Jerry Myles.
All In The Family For Romelo Trimble
It's one thing when an assistant coach comes to watch someone play. It's another when the head coach comes. But when the head coach brings their entire family to a recruit's game, they must be all in for a recruit. Whether it was intentional or not, Rutgers coach Mike Rice and his family took in the game of 2014 DC Assault point guard Romelo Trimble on Thursday. With Trimble dishing assists from all over the court, a variety of college coaches - including Xavier's Chris Mack, Cincinnati's Mick Cronin, Georgetown's John Thompson, Boston College's Steve Donahue, Miami's Jim Larranaga, George Mason's Paul Hewitt, UNLV's Dave Rice and more were on hand for his game. With two visits to Rutgers, and one to NC State, under his belt, Trimble hopes to take trips to Temple, Xavier and Notre Dame in the fall. He has no intention of cutting his list down anytime soon, but holds offers from Rutgers, Miami, Xaiver, Cincinnati, UNLV, Villanova, George Mason, Virginia Tech, Nebraska, Notre Dame and Temple.
Under Armour Summer Jam Recruiting Tidbits - Day Two
2014 KC Run GMC point guard Dominique Collier has had a strong tournament thus far. He lists offers from Arizona, Iowa, Colorado, Wake Forest and Purdue, with interest from Texas, UCLA, Kansas, Missouri, North Carolina and Stanford. While Colorado has the advantage of him living in the state, Collier remains wide open. The No. 62 player in the Rivals100 has nothing planned for the summer in regards to his recruitment, but if he can get stronger his interest could turn to offers.
2013 R.E.A.C.H Legends shooting guard Martez Walker has a variety of options that intrigue him. The rising senior holds offers from Iowa, DePaul, Tennessee, Rhode Island, Xavier, Iowa State, Colorado Providence and a majority of the MAC Conference. With the Volunteers, Rams and Musketeers recruiting him the hardest, Walker plans to visit those three schools, along with Iowa State, following the July Live Period.
As they made a great comeback victory over Rashad Vaughn's Net Gain Sports squad, 2014's Larry Austin and Darius Austin of Team Rose - no relation - got it done on the court. Darius, a 2014 shooting guard, had to play in the post but still played fairly well. DePaul, Xavier, Miami, St. Louis and SIUE have offered, while Tennessee, Illinois, Michigan, Butler, Oregon State and Purdue are recruiting him. As he hopes to visit Illinois and Oregon State in the near future, Austin believes Butler, Xavier and DePaul are coming at him the hardest. The other Austin - Larry, a 2014 point guard - holds offers from Bradley, Memphis, Missouri, DePaul and Oklahoma State, with interest from Tennessee, Xavier, Stanford, Kansas State, Illinois and West Virginia. As Memphis, Tennessee, Kansas State and Oklahoma State are coming at him the hardest, including Josh Pastner, who attended the game today, the No. 45 player in the Rivals100 is wide-open in his recruitment.
