VTO Underclassmen camp: Future stars

MORE: VTO Sports | Underclassmen Challenge

The VTO Sports Underclassmen circuit served as a springboard to the Rivals250 Underclassmen Challenge presented by Under Armour.

Two sessions were held June 16 in Highland Springs, Va., and seven players were chosen to attend the Underclassmen Challenge.

Several other players, however, made a good impression and got a jump on a 2014 Underclassmen Challenge invite.

Ready to emerge in 2015

Anthony Bronaugh made the trip from Ohio and just finished out of the invite list.

Bronaugh is a prototypical cornerback at 5-foot-10 and he has the body to add more muscle to his 164-pound frame. His 32.7 vertical jump was one of the top scores at the event.

Cornerback Dre Reid (5-foot-10, 172) also just missed making the invite list. The rising sophomore from Maryland 4A State champion Henry Wise High School has the measurables to be a top-rated corner. He has fluid moves and moved through the drills with confidence.

Nottoway linebacker Darrius Jones, 5-foot-10, 237, is a big linebacker in the mold of Kansas City Chiefs great Buddy Bell. He is a more defensive end/linebacker, but he was nimble on his feet and surprised with his quickness.

Chancellor High School in Fredericksburg (Va.) has consistently produced Division I talent and lineman Pete Seftas could continue that trend. He performed well on the bench press with 21 reps and is built like a truck. While he's lacking BCS size (6-foot-1, 235), Seftas has two years to gain bulk and add mass.

Keshaan Cuffee from Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake (6-foot-0, 236) is a smaller lineman who will need to add bulk to match his promising potential. He did 13 reps on the bench press, which put him among the top of the weight-lifting drills. Cuffie shares the interior line with recently committed Virginia five-star recruit Andrew Brown and he will no doubt gain some technique from one of the nation's best linemen.

Atlee linebacker Colton Brookens is rock solid at 5-foot-9, 190 and he posted a decent 26.5 in the vertical jump while pumping out 10 reps on the bench press.

Taking the next step

Sophomore Sammy Stark (5-foot-9, 181) was one of the guys to be noticed during the registration because of his chiseled frame. He has the look of a middle linebacker and he appeared excited to start the testing. He showed good technique during the drills while posting nine reps on the bench press. Stark stepped to the front of the line leading most of drills.

Freshman Brian McNeary will be able to learn from the best in the next four years at Good Counsel. McNeary he seems to have the natural tools to make a difference on the football field. On display was his speed and willingness to compete in the one-on-one drills.

There were only a handful on underclassmen listed at quarterback but one that made some noise was junior Cameron Knight of Heritage (Leesburg). Knight is an athletic prospect and it's no doubt he has the ability to take off with his quickness. Knight recorded a 29.3 vertical jump.

Star in the making

Shedrick McCall (6-foot, 200) is a rising freshman who will be attending Meadowbrook High School in Richmond (Va.). McCall has the body to make an impact right away. His immense talent projects well at several spots on both sides. He could see playing time at tailback, receiver, defensive end and linebacker as a freshman. He should receive offers before his junior year.
