Todd: '200-Percent Committed'

Untitled Document

The last time La, Mirada, Calif. Rivals250 wide receiver Dallis Todd was in Norman he was just hours away from committing to the Sooners. The 6-foot-5, 205-pound prospect made his long-awaited return to Norman after rumors in recent months that had some thinking the nation's No. 248 overall prospect could be looking around.

However, according to Todd, nothing could be farther from the truth.

"It was fun, it was a great experience," Todd said. "This official visit put me at 200-percent committed to Oklahoma. It made me even more committed. I didn't want to go home. My mom came with me and said the same thing."

And while it was over six months between his first two trips, some recent news has Todd on the verge of a permanent return in a little over two months time.

"My SAT came back great, really great. Two more months and I'll be back out at Oklahoma and enrolling," he gushed.

Todd and his mother were able to see their local relatives, a family group that Todd has admitted made his decision all the easier. However one thing he was anxious about was seeing how he'd fit in with the rest of the current Sooners. Oklahoma picked one of the few players on the roster Todd was familiar with to play as his host.

"I had, Derrick Woods. Derrick was my host the whole time. It was great hanging out with him. I knew him from before," he said. "I was just asking things about like coach (Jay) Norvell, and things about what they do inside the program that people don't see from the outside.

"He was just saying about how coach Norvell likes to coach his players and what he does different from all the other coaches and Derrick wasn't the only person telling me that. I was talking to Jalen Saunders and Sterling Shepard and they had great things to say. It was good information.

"I got in good, they were there and were treating it as if I was on the team already. It was a family type atmosphere."

Todd, who has begun work with the same trainer that works with former Sooner and current New Orleans Saints wide receiver Kenny Stills, has spent a lot of time talking with Norvell since his commitment and his message over the weekend was the same as it's been for some time.

"He was just telling me that what he can see me doing in the offense, that I'm going to have to get my mindset ready to come in and play early for him," Todd admitted. "They lack a lot of that down the field deep threat receivers, that's going to help me be able to play early and stretch the field out."

It's a thought that Todd noticed during the Texas game, a game he admitted was frustrating for him to watch.

"When I watched the Texas game, I knew they were lacking was a deep threat down the field. The corners and safeties were just sitting on everything short. It was making it hard for the offense to be balanced. (Against Texas Tech) they were able to stretch the field and throw the ball deep," he said.

"I was watching the receiver group as a whole in the Tech game, watching the entire group and how they are coached and how they are seeing one person."

As mentioned Todd and Norvell have had numerous conversations about improving the little aspects of his game - much of which Todd and his trainer have begun to work on together. The state of California's No. 27 prospect says that the skills he is working on were as plain as day when he watched Oklahoma's receivers at work.

"It was super easy to see. What they were doing was what I'm training on, it makes it a lot easier for me instead of waiting and going to college not knowing what to do. I was able to see and what I'm doing and I'm going to have use for it at Oklahoma."

And with Todd's big news it's something he'll be putting to use sooner rather than later.
