Football team receives third verbal commitment

Mark Setterstrom (6-3, 270) of Northfield has verbally committed to sign with the Gophers in 2002. Last week Terrell Fletcher and Eric Washington announced their intentions to play for the Gophers. Two of the three commitments are from Minnesota with the other (Washington) being from Detroit, Michigan. Fletcher is from St. Louis Park and is considered one of the state’s top prospects. So far the Gophers haven’t lost any in-state prospects.
On another recruiting note: It looks like Florida State won’t be getting Joe Mauer either, according the Charley Walters today. Mauer, who is one of top rated quarterbacks in the nation, signed with the Seminoles in February after giving the Gophers strong consideration. Now it looks like he will sign a $4.2 million contract with the Twins after being picked No. 1 in the Major League Baseball draft. There’s still an outside chance that the Gophers could rerecruit Mauer if baseball doesn’t work out for him.
