QA with Steve Shidell
In the 18th of what is expected to be a 25-part series of Q&As with the 2003 Gopher Football recruits, GopherHole.com's Zach Johnson recently spoke with Coon Rapids lineman Steve Shidell. Steve, yet another recruit who likes the Metrodome, talks about becoming a dominant force on the offensive line, among other things:
GopherHole.com: What was the best part of the recruiting process?

Shidell: The visit to Minnesota and staying in the hotel for 2 nights, pretty much the entire weekend.
GopherHole.com: What was the worst part of the recruiting process?
Shidell: I don't know if there was one, but the stress leading up to signing day was overwhelming. It was easier for me, because I knew where I wanted to go.
GopherHole.com: What was the #1 reason you chose to attend Minnesota?
Shidell: Location. I wanted to play for my home state school.
GopherHole.com: Who is Floyd of Rosedale?
Shidell: The pig that is the trophy for the Iowa-Minnesota game.
GopherHole.com: Was playing in the Metrodome a positive or negative factor when considering to attend Minnesota?
Shidell: Positive. The conditions will always be the same.
GopherHole.com: What player do you model your game after?
Shidell: Tony Boselli
GopherHole.com: What is the one Big Ten team you never want to lose to?
Shidell: Wisconsin, the border battle.
GopherHole.com: Who is the greatest football player in Minnesota history?
Shidell: Tyrone Carter
GopherHole.com: What are your individual and team goals you want to accomplish at Minnesota?
Shidell: I want to become a dominating offensive lineman. I want my team to go to the Rose Bowl and to be able to say we had a successful time during my time with the Gophers.
GopherHole.com: What do you have to work on in order to reach these goals?
Shidell: Size and strength. I also need to maintain my speed, because in the Big 10 you need size and power.
