Holmes is golden

Minnesota received a commitment from Ponchatoula (La.) athlete Jakyle Holmes today. The three-star also held offers from Arizona State, Ball State, Tulane, UL-Lafayette, UL-Monroe, and UTSA.

"(Minnesota is) s a real big school, and they have good competition in the Big Ten," he's told The Gopher Report before. "They have good academics, so your degree means something there. It’s a good place."

His primary recruiter has been area recruiter and future coordinator Jay Johnson.

Holmes’ point of contact from Minnesota has been Jay Johnson, and he says their relationship is "real good."

He's previously said that the most important factor in his recruitment will be playing early and a team that will use him in the best way.

"I also want to be used at a place that can get me the ball in space and make big plays."

Holmes played quarterback this year for his high school, but TGR believes that he will most likely start out as a running back for Minnesota. We expect him to catch screens and run jet sweeps more than a typical running back. It's also possible that the three-star will turn into a slot receiver.
