After entering the transfer portal just over two weeks ago, 6'7" George Washington transfer forward Jamison Battle has pledged his commitment to the University of Minnesota.

The former De LaSalle and D1 Minnesota standout just wrapped up his sophomore season at George Washington, where he led his team in scoring, and is now be the first commitment of the Ben Johnson era at Minnesota.

"Jamison is a very mature player and person," D1 Minnesota coach Al Harris said to TGR. "Works very hard on his craft as a shooter and defender. One of the best shooters in the country. Very easy guy to coach because he’s always looking for new ways to be efficient on the court which makes a coaches job so much easier. I’ve trained and coached him, but what I enjoy the most about him is his respect for the game and his teammates. An awesome young man."

Jamison Battle immediately adds shooting to the Gopher roster, and that's something they sorely missed last season. Minnesota shot 28.4% from three in the 2020-21 season, good for 339th out of 347 participating division-I programs.

Battle's 35.4% shooting from deep would have led Minnesota this past season. He enters a roster that currently has Isaiah Ihnen on roster at his position, and grad transfer Brandon Johnson should he choose to return to Minnesota.

His ability to stretch the floor is something that Minnesota has been missing, and that's a key skill that new Gopher coach Ben Johnson said he wants to emphasize in recruiting.
