It didn't take too long for Oakdale (Minn.) Tartan running back Jay Thomas to make a verbal commitment to the University of Minnesota. The Tartan star committed to Minnesota during August last year, shortly before his senior season started. Thomas had a big senior season as he set numerous single game, season and career records at Tartan. But it is always nice to get to know people a littler better. This year we hope to get the answers to some questions that will help the fans learn a little more about the young men they plan to cheer on for the next four or five years.

GI.com: What is your favorite sport besides football? Why?
JT: I like to play beach volleyball with my friends just for fun here in Oakdale.
GI.com: Are you a video gamer? What game is currently in your system?
JT: Definitely. I currently have Madden in my system but I play a lot of the EA Sports games.
GI.com: If you could meet one person, who would it be? Why?
JT: I would say Martin Luther King or Michael Jordan. It is pretty self explanatory why I would choose Martin Luther King, he led the way and broke down a lot of barriers. Michael Jordan, because even outside of basketball he is a really good person and has good morals and views on things.
GI.com: What is your favorite movie and actor/actress? Why?
JT: Pretty Women. I usually always go see movies by Jet Li and Julia Roberts.
GI.com: Do you have a nickname? If so, how did you get it?
JT: J-Bomb. Not really sure how I got the name, but it is a long story and it started during my junior year.
GI.com: Do you have any tattoos? If not, any plans on getting any?
JT: I have a tattoo on my right shoulder of Jesus holding a cross over his shoulder. I might get something added on to it but other than that I am not really a big tattoo guy.
GI.com: Who has been the biggest influence in your life?
JT: My parents. They have helped me with pretty much everything. They keep my head up when I need some confidence and they bring me down when I need it. They pretty much try to keep me level headed.
GI.com: What team or teams did you grow up cheering for?
JT: When I was little I was a big North Carolina fan, but as I got older I became more of a Miami Hurricane fan. I still am in to Miami and am a still a big Hurricane fan. I will still be a Hurricane fan at heart even though I am a Gopher, it would be fun to play them.
GI.com: What is an important saying or philosophy you adhere to in your life?
JT: Give everything to God.
GI.com: What is your favorite hobby to do in your spare time?
JT: I just like to hang out with my friends, play games and just do different activities.

GI.com: What is your dream job?
JT: I would love to be an architect. I like to use my mind and be creative.
GI.com: Tell me your most embarrassing story.
JT: Wow, I would have to dig deep for that one. I don't even know, I might have to phone a friend on that one.
GI.com: What is your favorite subject in school? Why?
JT: Social Studies, because I like to learn about current events, the past and social issues.
GI.com: Do you surf the internet? What are your favorite sites?
JT: Yes, I usually go to sites that have funny videos of people getting caught doing stupid things. I also check on sports sites.
