Minnesota DB Steven Ortiz Jr enters transfer portal
Minnesota saw a third player in three days enter the transfer portal on Tuesday when third-year defensive back Steven Ortiz Jr announced his intentions to enter the portal when it opens next Monday. Ortiz was the Gophers' highest-rated commitment of the 2021 recruiting class and one of the top recruits of the P.J. Fleck era.
The former four-star recruit did not see time with the Gophers as a true freshman in 2021 before making his collegiate debut this season against Western Illinois. He did not record any stats in his lone game against the Leathernecks.
The Goodyear (AZ) native will have three years of college eligibility remaining at his next program.
