Myrick pulls the trigger

Savannah (Ga.) Christian School cornerback Jalen Myrick knew that he just couldn't wait any longer and pulled the trigger to become a Golden Gopher yesterday evening. Myrick spoke with GopherIllustrated about his decision to commit to Minnesota.
"Honestly, I just couldn't wait any longer," Myrick said. "Since I visited Minnesota a few weeks ago, I've been thinking about doing it each day since. I loved every part of my visit there and I just know that I want to be a part of everything that's going on up there in the Twin Cities."

Myrick says the environment and coaches are a huge reason he wants to be a Gopher.
"The feel that I got from the players, coaches and campus are things that I have dreamt about since I was a kid," Myrick explained. "The coaches up there, especially Coach Jerry Kill are some of the most genuine and sincere people I've ever met and I am really looking forward to playing for a coach like that. Coach Kill has been straight up and honest with throughout my recruitment and I really like that. The feel I got from going around campus was amazing too. I don't know how to explain it, but the vibe I got was something I'm really looking for. I like how the campus has its own little part right in the middle of the Twin Cities. Plus, my mom loved it up there. I mean you can't go wrong when your mom loves it."
The Georgia standout talked with Coach Kill to give his pledge to Minnesota.
"I called up Coach Kill tonight and he was really pumped," Myrick told GI. "We talked for a bit and then he asked me if I'm ready to be a Golden Gopher yet and I immediately said, "Yes sir!". All the coaches were really excited and that makes you feel good you know. He also explained to me now, that other schools will probably be coming after me harder, so he wanted to make sure that I was solid to him. I told him that I am really solid because Minnesota has been my top school for a long time now. I'm really excited to get started up there."
With his commitment, does this mean Myrick is done taking visits?
"No, I think I'm still going to take some officials," Myrick said. "The reason I'm doing that is because before I even started the recruiting process my head coach made me promise that I would take my five officials, but honestly I just want to see Minnesota right now. They'll be my first official for sure. I don't even know who else I'll visit, so we'll have to see. I just want to say one thing to Gopher fans. Ski-U-Mah!"
