The Gophers struggles on the diamond this season continued over the weekend as Nebraska completed a four-game sweep over Minnesota.
To start things off on Friday Minnesota couldn't push across enough runs to compete, compiling just seven hits on the day falling 6-1. In a double-header on Saturday the Gophers gave up 23 total runs in two games dropping game one 6-4 and game two 17-5.
To cap the series off on Sunday the Gophers tallied just four hits, pushing across two runs and giving the Cornhuskers a four-game sweep with a 10-2 victory over Minnesota.
Friday in game one the Gophers did not score until the eighth inning when Zack Elliott hit an RBI single up the middle. Minnesota could not rally in the ninth with just one baserunner and was unable to have an answer for the Cornhuskers pitching.
In double-header action on Saturday Minnesota started things out more competitive taking the lead 2-1 after five innings of play. Unfortunately the Cornhuskers would score five in the sixth in game one to win and score 17 total in game two to down the Gophers in games two and three of the series.
Things were yet again not competitive on Sunday as Nebraska handled Minnesota 10-2 in the finale capping off a complete series sweep. Andrew Wilhite was the lone Gopher to produce a multi-hit effort.
Minnesota now sits at an abysmal 3-12 on the season which is last in the Big Ten behind Purdue and Penn State. The Gophers' team batting average is .210 and the team ERA lies at a woeful 7.48.
Coming up next for Minnesota will be a three-game weekend series against Michigan State at Siebert Field. This will be the Gophers' first home series at Siebert Field since 2019.
