The majority of the top high school basketball players (several of which will hopefully be Gophers one day) in the state will be in action Wednesday and Thursday when the Howard Pulley Panthers teams play in an exhibition warm-up to the Howard Pulley Pro-Am playoffs. The Panthers will play at 7 pm both nights, and the playoff games will follow at 8:15 pm.

On Wednesday night, the 17-under second team will play the 16-under second team. Players in this game include Matt Annen of Elk River, potential Gopher Football recruit Dominique Byrd of Breck, Lawrence McKenzie of Henry, and Steve Neal of Henry.

The rest of the big names will be in action Thursday night, when the top 17-under team plays the top 16-under team. Players on the 17-under team include Jeff Halbert, Kris Humphries, and Terry Pettis. Players on the 16-under team include Darren Clarke, Dan Coleman, Tommy Hammonds, and Kammron Taylor.

Looking at the rosters gives you an idea of who some of the top teams in the state the next few years are going to be. While there will be some good teams who have just one player in the game (like White Bear Lake) or even no players in the game (like Litchfield, Tartan, and Grand Rapids), it's tough not to be impressed with Hopkins (3 players), De La Salle (4 players), Minneapolis North (5 players), and Minneapolis Henry (7 players).
