While three Minnesota Golden Gophers heard their names called during this weekend's NFL Draft in center John Michael Schmitz, safety Jordan Howden, and defensive back Terrell Smith, six additional Gophers signed deals with NFL teams as undrafted free agents on Saturday following the conclusion of the NFL Draft.
Below, we go over which Gophers have signed where.
QB Tanner Morgan - Pittsburgh Steelers
Morgan's football journey will continue as he makes his way to the Steel City to join the Pittsburgh Steelers. In Pittsburgh, he'll try and compete to be the Steelers' third quarterback behind Kenny Pickett and Mitch Trubisky.
RB Mohamed Ibrahim - Detroit Lions
The star running back won't be going too far as he's headed to Detroit to join the Lions. Ibrahim will be joining a crowded backfield but there's certainly plenty of upside to his game that could allow him to break the Lions' 53-man roster or practice squad.
OG Chuck Filiaga - Green Bay Packers
The former Michigan and Minnesota guard is headed to the Green Bay Packers. The Packers' offensive line could certainly use all the help they can get, perhaps Filiaga could find his way into the Packers' rotation next fall. He was an All-Big Ten third-team selection by the coaches this past season.
LB Thomas Rush - Tennessee Titans
The All-Big Ten honorable mention linebacker who recorded a career-high 34 tackles this past season is headed to the Music City. He got $175,000 guaranteed from the Titans in the deal according to Tom Pelissero. A nice deal for the Ohio native.
LB Mariano Sori-Marin - San Francisco 49ers
The All-Big Ten third-team selection by the coaches who recorded a career-high 88 tackles and started all 13 games this past season is headed out west to join the San Francisco 49ers. Don't be surprised to find Sori-Marin on the 49ers practice squad this fall. While rookies don't usually play a ton for the 49ers unless needed (i.e. Brock Purdy), they do love developing their young players and Sori-Marin fits that to a tee.
K Matthew Trickett - Atlanta Falcons
Trickett is headed to Atlanta where he'll challenge kicker Younghoe Koo for the Falcons starting placekicking job. Koo is coming off a good but not great season, hitting 32-of-37 field goal attempts and making 33-of-35 extra-point attempts.
